Spring Cleaning your Makeup Brushes
Tuesday, March 01, 2011
Make-up brushes can become coated with not only make-up residue, but also body oils and dead skin, making them a haven for bacteria.
- After each use, your make-up brushes should be wiped with a fresh baby wipe to reduce build-up of make-up and oils.
- Once a week, fill your sink or a small bowl with a couple of inches of warm water (depending how many brushes you have)
- Add a capful of shampoo (about a tablespoon) - preferably baby shampoo or a daily clarifying shampoo.
- Add 3 to 4 drops of tea tree oil for a great anti-bacterial and anti-fungal.
- Place brushes in solution and rub the bristles between your fingers for at least 30 seconds for each brush.
- Rinse each brush thouroughly in warm water, making sure to get off all of the shampoo residue.
- Pat the brushes dry with a towel, then lay them flat on towel, reshaping the bristles, and keep them in a warm dry location to finish air drying completely.
