Basic Bath Bomb Recipe

  • 1 part Citric Acid
  • 2 parts Baking Soda
  • Witch Hazel (in a spritz/squirt bottle)
  • Essential or Fragrance Oil
  • Dried Herbs (optional)
  • Dome Shaped Mold (optional)

1. BLEND! Citric Acid & Baking Soda. This is super important, if you don’t blend well the finished product will be grainy and lumpy. I use a wire wisk
or a blender.

2. Add dried herbs/flowers. Stir with wisk.

3. Add essential/fragrance oil. This is a personal preference add as much or as little as you like. Aromatherapy is really the whole point of the basic bomb so go ahead and experiment.

4. Spritz the Witch Hazel onto the dry mix while stirring with the other hand.  Be careful not to wet too much. It’s ready to be molded when you squish it in your hands and it begins to stick together.

5. Start putting it the mixture in molds-move quickly it will start to get hard pretty fast!  Be sure to pack the stuff in there to ensure the bomb is dense and durable.
*If you spritz too much it will be too wet and start fizzing, then you have to throw it out and start over.

Things to add to you bombs:

1. Olive Oil, shea butter(melted) or cocoa butter(melted) about 1 tsp. (helps to moisturize)

2. Dehydrated Milk (goat’s or regular) instead of baking soda (helps to moisturize)

3. Dried Tea Leaves

4. Sugar

5. Epsom Salts-ground up.

Local Shopping
You can find all of the ingredients at your local health food store.
The manager at Abby’s Health & Nutrition Market said that he would order citric acid in bulk if given enough time - this would be more economical.
