Budget Friendly Date Night Ideas

Friday, February 03, 2012

You know it’s important to spend time with your mate but life gets in the way and date nights don’t make the To Do list.  But spending one-on-one time is important for so many reasons and can inject excitement into a stale relationship.  You remember why you fell in love in the first place, as you take time to get re-acquainted.

Date nights don’t have to cost you an arm and a leg.  And they don’t always have to be at night, for that matter.   Here are 12 budget-friendly date ideas – that’s one a month!

1)     Movie Night.  Head to Walmart or Walgreens and rent a Redbox movie for about a buck.  While you’re there, pick up some popcorn and movie candy.

2)    Just Dessert.   You don't have to head to a fancy, expensive restaurant for Date Night.  Instead, cook dinner at home and go out for dessert and coffee.

3)    Nostalgia Night. Enjoy a casual meal at home while flipping through old photos.  Watch your wedding video and take a trip down memory lane.

4)    Home Happy Hour.  Pick up some Margarita mix, tequila, salt and lime for less than $20.  Throw in some tortilla chips and salsa, and you’ve got all the fixings for happy hour at la casa!

5)    Wine Down.  Check your local wine bar or liquor store for wine-tasting night.  Some are free or low-cost and you get to sample some terrific wines.

6)    Hit the Bar.  Shoot pool, play darts and drink a beer.  Go early evening or a weekend afternoon, as some bars have specials.

7)    Paint the town red. Head to your local painted pottery place and paint coffee mugs.

8)    See it LIVE.  Try live entertainment, such as a band at a local bar or restaurant.

9)    People Watch. Get a cup of coffee and people watch.  Try to guess people’s names, figure out who is on a first date or make up stories about people.

10)    Night at the Museum.  Many museams usually have one free night a week or month, so hit one then.

11)    Garage sale. Take a tour of garage sales in the ritziest neighborhoods.

12)    Open House. Visit open houses.  Even if you aren’t in the market for a new home, it’s fun to see what’s out there and dream a little.  You can get some good decorating ideas too.

And one more thing for those with kids.  Hiring a sitter adds to the cost of a date night.  Instead, consider taking turns with another couple with children.  You watch their kids for their date night and they watch yours when it’s your turn.  Win-win!
