Bat Those Beautiful Lashes

The beauty of a woman must be seen from in her eyes, because that is the doorway to her heart, the place where love resides.   –Audrey Hepburn

It used to be that having great eyelashes meant owning an eyelash curler and a tube of mascara.  But take a look at any magazine cover and you’ll see that eyelashes are longer and thicker than ever.  There’s no way I could achieve celebrity lashes with any mascara I’ve found.  But here are some other options for beautiful, full lashes.

1)    Prescription treatments to grow your own eyelashes.

Latisse® is one of the most well-known brands.  It is the only FDA-approved product to grow lashes longer, fuller and darker for those that don’t have enough lashes.  It’s applied nightly along the skin at the base of the upper eyelids.  Latisse® claims to work gradually with the best results seen around the 16 week mark.  There can be side effects, the most common being itchy eyes and/or redness.  The cost is approximately $120 for a month's worth of applicators.

2)    Lash Extenders in a bottle

Lash extenders such as Divaderme are brush-on lash extensions, adding hundreds of tiny natural lash fibers enriched with panthenol to your own lashes.  It is applied in between coats of mascara to give you longer, fuller lashes.  This is an affordable option, not to mention easy to use and easy to remove.

3)    Eyelash Extensions

Semi-permanent eyelash extensions give you longer, thicker and very natural looking eyelashes.  These are popular among celebrities but women everywhere are getting in on this trend.  Linda Pilon, owner of Butterfly Lash Solutions, explains that the extensions are made from single strands of synthetic eyelashes that are curved to replicate a natural eyelash.  Each lash is applied one by one to your own natural eyelashes using adhesive. Depending on your lash growth cycle, you may need touch ups every 3 weeks.  The application process can take anywhere from 1 ½ hours to 2 ½ hours.  You can choose how dramatic you want to go, as extensions are available in varying lengths and thicknesses.  Butterfly Lash Solutions recommend that you use only a Certified Eyelash Extension Specialist.
